Step into a world of mesmerising prints and patterns, designed and Made in Asia. Crossing Cultures takes on Asian fashion, with an outdoor fashion and upcycle market featuring local brands and fun textile craft activities, breathtaking performances of fashion-inspired music and dance from the Nusantara, and deep dives into our fashion and textiles collection through tours, workshops, and drop-in activities!
This edition of Crossing Cultures is held in conjunction with the ACM’s special exhibition Batik Kita: Dressing in Port Cities. Visit the exhibition at a special $10 discounted admission rate into Batik Kita: Dressing in Port Cities, only during programme timings (usual price: $12 for Singaporeans/PRs, $25 for foreigners).
2, 3, 4 September 6pm, 7pm, 8pm ACM Hardcourt Be amazed by music and dance performances inspired by textiles from the Malay world. Accompanied by live tunes played on instruments commonly used in Nusantaran music, catch this cross-collaboration between performers from Era Dance Theatre in Singapore and Sanggar Budaya Pesona Nusantara from Solo, Surakarta.
2, 3, 4 September 4 to 9pm River Room, L2, ACM Shop for your next fabulous outfit at our fashion stalls or refresh old favourites into something new! Bring along some old fashion items (textiles/materials, clothes) and upcycle them at the free activity booths. Transform old fabrics with stamp-able prints and patterns, or turn them into jewellery!

Watch crafters from Craft Atelier demonstrate the fundamental motions of weaving on a rigid heddle loom. Then try your hand at weaving a portion to contribute to a collaborative community fabric.
Join Stacy Tan from local textile studio YABAI YABAI to design and print your very own drawstring bag. Choose from a selection of stamps inspired by motifs in the museum’s collection and go wild!
2, 3, 4 September 7pm ACM Galleries $10 per person Registration required on Peatix Follow Hafiz Rashid, docent and textile collector, on a journey through the past, to learn about the unique craftsmanship and aesthetics of Southeast Asian textiles. Including the Batik Kita: Dressing in Port Cities special exhibition, the tour will shed light on ACM’s fashion and textile collection.

Bring along your own saris and sarongs, or dress up in our selection of South Asian and Southeast Asian clothing! Learn old new ways to wear your favourite textiles – then head over to the photo booth to have your picture taken!
Put on your most iconic Asian outfit and take a photo at our automat self-studio. Take inspiration from the fashions featured in our galleries or try on traditional costumes at our dress-up station, then capture a photo memory to bring home!

Learn about batik simbut, one of the oldest textile dyeing techniques, which uses rice paste as a dye resist. In this session, participants will learn about this technique, its heritage, and how it differs from batik made using hot wax. Participants will create their own carrier bag in this workshop, which will introduce all the steps of batik making. This workshop is designed for beginners and no prior experience is required.
