Mary Angela Bateman, an art teacher, created a set of watercolour drawings while interned in Changi Gaol and later Sime Road camp. Bateman is one of two known female war artists in Changi. Her watercolours are poignant first-hand records of her incarceration in Changi, capturing everyday chores, prison architecture, and interactions between her fellow internees.
