Japanese Chanoyu Tea Ceremony Demonstration with Chado Urasenke Tankokai Singapore Association

17 & 18 August, 2–3pm

$5 per participant



Experience chanoyu, or the way of tea, by observing a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Participants will be served a bowl of hand brewed Japanese tea and sweet during the session.



The session will also provide insights into how fabrics (kireji), both Japanese and imported, are used in the tea ceremony. A mini showcase of fukusa and other fabrics related to Japanese tea culture will be displayed.



Suitable for ages 12 years and above. 



About Chado Urasenke Tankokai Singapore Association

Established in 1991, the association is one of the 110 entities around the world promoting chanoyu and its rich cultural heritage. As a non-profit organisation, it fosters cultural understanding between Japan and Singapore through collaborations with the Japan Creative Centre, Asian Civilisations Museum, Esplanade, Gardens by the Bay, and various institutes of higher learning.

A Guide to Ikebana Flower Arrangement with Angela Kek

Learn about the art of Japanese flower arrangement, ikebana, which emphasises harmony between the vase, the branches, and the flowers in this workshop by local ikebana practitioner, Angela Kek.

Suitable for ages 15 years and above.

About Angela Kek

Angela Kek holds a First Grade Jonin Sumo teacher qualification from the Sogetsu School of Ikebana in Tokyo. She was a former president of Ikebana International Singapore Chapter 135 (2017-2019) for Tokyo HQ, a member of the Sogetsu Singapore Association and Sogetsu Teacher Association in Tokyo HQ. She has exhibited her works in China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Singapore, where she is based.
