Pastimes in Times Past: Entertainment in Singapore 1930s–1980s
Did you know that the former National Theatre was modelled after the national flag of Singapore? The design featured a five-pointed façade representing the five stars and a fountain shaped like the crescent moon. Apart from National Day rallies and university convocations, it was a popular venue for concerts and cultural performances like Chinese Wayang (operas), classical Indian and Malay dances and theatrical productions.
Join us in re-living a slice of our entertainment history at the ongoing display Pastimes in Times Past: Entertainment in Singapore 1930s–1980s, featuring the National Library’s collection of published materials.
This is an ongoing exhibition.
