Pictures in the Mind
Pictures in the Mind is community arts exhibition that explores of the visceral nature of public memories in relation to Peace Centre, one of Singapore’s oldest shopping malls built in the mid 1970s. Peace Centre is one of the oldest shopping malls that marked the early decades of Singapore’s rapid development upon independence in 1965. It is inevitable for a building of 50 years old to exist in memories with various pictures in the mind, which might enable us to understand the life story of Peace Centre between the 70s till present time. Through the processes of public participation and interviews, collation of archival materials, artistic intervention, and the use of technology, Pictures in the Mind surfaces images that tell a myriad of stories that are both truth and the imagined.
