Shakespeare in Print: The First Folio
The National Library of Singapore will be displaying a special loan from The University of Oxford’s Bodleian Libraries, a Shakespeare’s First Folio. Shakespeare’s plays are some of the most significant and pieces of literature in the English cannon and have influenced art and media all over the world for centuries.
The First Folio exhibition is an exciting opportunity for visitors to see the plays in their first printed form. Without the First Folio and the efforts of its publishers to preserve Shakespeare’s works, plays such as Antony and Cleopatra, The Tempest, and Macbeth may have been lost.
Also featured will be the impact Shakespeare’s works have had on theatre in Asia as well as his great influence on our modern day use of the English language.
