Join us to explore the life and times of Singapore's pioneer violinist, pedagogue, conductor and impresario, Goh Soon Tioe. Sumatra-born Goh dreamed of being a concert violinist while studying in Geneva, Switzerland. However, his dreams were shattered by the looming World War II and with paralysed fingers brought on by malnutrition, he was forced to return to Singapore.
Join Cultural Medallion winner, Vivien Goh, as she shares how Goh fought back to become the dominant presence on the Singapore stage for the next 30 years. He nurtured young musicians and built a string orchestra while managing concerts by famous foreign musicians and ending his career on a high as the conductor of the Singapore Youth Symphony Orchestra.
