The Bras Basah.Bugis Arts Sprawl celebrates the vibrant and bustling arts, heritage and design district through an array of exciting programmes, street art and many more within the sub-zones of Bras Basah.Bugis. Set along what was once a lively school district, this edition of the quarterly programme series adopts the theme of ‘Never Growing Up’ this June school holidays at Queen Street.

Colour a mural, learn how to make a little something at our craft workshops, catch a film screening or pamper yourself at The Local People art market and more! Join us for a fantastic time at the Bras Basah.Bugis Arts Sprawl!

 

Programme Line Up:

Mural Colouring | 5pm – 10pm

Lend us a hand in colouring the cute illustrations dotted around Waterloo Centre by Chips and Toon Animation Studio!

 

Interactive Installation | 5pm – 10pm

Remember those days where we used to write long essays in school, always starting with that very iconic line, "在一个风和日丽的早上,小明和小丽。。。" or "One fine day, Ali and Bala…”?

Take a trip down memory lane with us, and pen down your very own short story, in a few lines, in either English or Mandarin. Tickle us with your humour as we will pick 2 participants with the funniest stories and stand a chance to win prizes from wheniwasfour | 小时候工作屋!

 

The Local People Art Market | 5pm – 10pm   

Treat yourself to a range of interesting locally-designed and produced merchandise at The Local People Art Market featuring 50 food, art & retail vendors! Little trinkets such as intricate jewellery pieces and quirky pins, a taste of the exquisite Japanese Raindrop Cake and much more awaits. 

 

Craft Workshops by Fashion Maker Space | 5pm - 10pm 

Remake your own five-stones and/or kisslock purse at our craft workshops. Learn sewing machine skills & add designs to your own fabric. Sew simple!

Portrait Studio | 5pm - 10pm 

Have your photograph taken in an old-school fashion at our Portrait Studio and share with us your fondest memories of your childhood days.

 

Storytelling | 7pm

Join storyteller, Imelda Mo, as she takes you on a journey to revisit the adventures of Roald Dahl’s James and The Giant Peach, Maurice Sendak’s Where The Wild Things Are and Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree.   

 

Movie Screening | 8.30pm – 10pm

i. The Barefoot Dancer 

A beggar girl with a passion for dance desires nothing more than a beautiful pair of shoes to frolic in. However, due to her ragged appearance, she is constantly denied entry into the shoe shop on the hill. Despite her difficulties, she continues to care for an old blind beggar down the street. One day, a partnership of skills enabled her to put up a street performance with him, allowing her to collect enough to afford a pair of shoes.

ii. Kitbash Kid

Animation title: KitBash Kid

Synopsis: The story is about a friendship between a boy and a robot. Jun Bao a Chinese boy who lives on a typical 1960s HDB. He enjoys making small robots until one day he found the parts he needs for a big robot. The robot that he made is curious about the world around it. Jun Bao began to test his robot to ensure that it is functional. However the curiosity of the robot brings not only joy but trouble to the boy.

Director Bio: Jun’An is a Singaporean who has just graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts, with a BA(HONS) in animation art. He is a determine person who insist on finishing work that he started. He started animation course during 2011 for two years learning the technical skills that is essential for animation and during his final year in college he is able to complete his animation with quality that he set for himself. His inspiration as a film maker is through his experience with movies and animations throughout his childhood. He hopes that the animations that he creates will have appeal towards children and young adults so they could be inspired like he did and able to develop the perseverance that is need to walk towards their dreams.   

 

iii. Spycat and the Paper Chase

Spycat hunts down Captain Chico, whose latest scheme involves robbing the world of every paper product there is. The pursuit takes Spycat to colourful Tokyo, then aboard Captain Chico's airship for a climactic showdown between cat and dog.

iv. Turi the Turtle

Turi is a young turtle who abandons his shell for the sparkling diamonds that he finds on an island. Little does he know the burden that comes with his newly acquired gems.
