Living with Ink: The Collection of Dr Tan Tsze Chor was an exhibition at the Asian Civilisations Museum that ran from 8 November 2019 to 26 April 2020.
It presented highlights from the collection of Singapore's renowned art collector Dr Tan Tsze Chor. Since 2000, the Tan family has donated to the museum over 130 treasured Chinese paintings, porcelains, and scholars' objects from this collection. The exhibition included paintings by modern Chinese masters Ren Bonian, Xu Beihong, and Qi Baishi, as well as works made by artists in Singapore in the 1930s through the 1980s, when Dr Tan was building his collection. Living with Ink explored how Chinese art was appreciated by networks of overseas Chinese collectors and philanthropists, giving you a glimpse into the Singapore art world in the turbulent 20th century.
This catalogue documents Living with Ink: The Collection of Dr Tan Tsze Chor, presented at ACM, Singapore, from 8 November 2019 to 22 March 2020. Full colour illustrations of all the artworks displayed in the exhibition are included. This catalogue was made possible by generous support from the family of the late Dr Tan Tsze Chor.
Held in conjunction with the exhibition Living with Ink: The Collection of Dr Tan Tsze Chor 水•墨•情— 又逢香雪庄 (8 Nov 2019–22 Mar 2020), this symposium brought together art historians and curators to examine the development and appreciation of Chinese art in networks of overseas Chinese artists and collectors in the late 19th and early 20th century.
